If you are new to Bimmer Garage, this short guide explains how the community works. It covers the different forums, how to start a topic, member ranks, best answers and a few features that make the forum easier to use.

The forums

Each forum has a clear purpose:

  • Introductions: say hello and show your BMW.
  • Help & problems: ask about faults, warning messages and strange noises.
  • Tech & DIY: maintenance, repairs, tools and modifications.
  • Photos & builds: share your car and follow long-term projects.
  • Buying & ownership: buying advice, running costs and ownership experiences.
  • Meets & events: drives, meets and track days.
  • General: everything else about BMW M cars.

Posting in the right place helps the right people see your topic and helps others find it later.

Starting a good topic

Choose a title that describes the topic clearly. "Rattle at cold start on N52 engine" is much better than "Help please". Then explain the details: your car, what happens, when it happens and what you have already checked. Add your own photos with the photo button if they help.

Links are not allowed in the community. This keeps everyone safe from spam and scams. If you want to mention an article, describe it in words.

Member ranks

Your rank grows as you take part in the community. Topics, replies and comments all count:

  • New member when you join.
  • Member after 5 posts.
  • Regular after 25 posts.
  • V10 Enthusiast after 100 posts.
  • M Legend after 300 posts.

Ranks are not a competition. They simply show how active someone is. Members the team knows well are marked with a check sign as trusted members.

Best answers in Help & problems

When you ask a question in Help & problems and someone solves it, mark their reply as the best answer. The topic is then shown as solved, and the solution appears at the top of the page. This is one of the most useful things you can do for the community, because the next owner with the same problem will find the answer immediately.

Useful features

  • Watch a topic to get a notification when someone replies.
  • Follow categories to see new topics in your feed.
  • Reactions let you thank someone without writing a reply.
  • Polls can be added to a topic when you want opinions from many members.
  • Private messages are the right place to exchange contact details.

Reporting problems

If you see spam, a scam attempt or rude behaviour, use the report button. Posts with several reports are hidden automatically until the team checks them. Please do not reply to spam; simply report it.

Enjoy the community, ask questions and share what you know.
