Many members owned a BMW years ago, moved to another brand for family, work or budget reasons, and are now coming back. If that sounds like you, this topic is for your introduction.

Why returning owners have useful stories

People who come back to BMW after a long break see the changes clearly. They notice how much the cars, the technology and the ownership costs have changed, and they often remember what an older model was like to live with. That perspective helps members who are deciding between a classic and a modern car.

What to include in your post

To make your introduction useful for others, you could share:

  • Your previous BMW: model, engine, roughly when you owned it and what you liked or disliked.
  • The years away: what you drove in between, in general terms. There is no need to name dealers or people.
  • What brought you back: a specific model, the driving feel, a family need, an event or simply missing the brand.
  • Your current car or plans: what you own now, or what you are looking for.
  • Surprises: what feels better or worse than you expected, for example iDrive, driver assistance systems, service intervals or running costs.

Common questions from returning owners

Returning owners often ask similar things, so you may find answers quickly in the forum:

  • How has servicing changed? Most modern BMWs use Condition Based Service, which shows what is due in the car. Our blog has a guide that explains it.
  • Are modern engines reliable? The answer depends on the engine. Members can help you compare.
  • Should I buy an older model I already know, or a new generation? Both have pros and cons, and the Buying & ownership forum is the right place to ask.

Keep it friendly and safe

Please do not post registration plates, VIN numbers, addresses or other personal details. If you add photos, check the background before you upload. Share your experience honestly, including the bad parts, because balanced stories help others more than perfect ones.

Welcome back

Whether you are returning after five years or thirty, you are welcome here. Reply below with your story and, if you like, a photo of your old BMW and your new one side by side. Other members will be happy to share tips, answer questions and help you settle back into BMW ownership.
