Going to your first car meet can feel a little intimidating, especially if you do not know anyone. The good news is that most BMW meets are friendly and welcoming. This topic explains what to expect and how to make the most of your first event.

Before you go

  • Read the event details: time, location area, parking rules and any entry requirements.
  • Check whether you need to register or reply to the event on the site.
  • Clean your car if you like, but do not worry. Every BMW is welcome, from daily drivers to show cars.
  • Plan your journey and arrive at the stated time, not too early.

Arriving and parking

Follow the organisers' instructions on arrival. Drive slowly and quietly in the car park. Park where you are directed, which is often by model or arrival order. Never rev your engine, spin the wheels or play loud music.

Meeting people

  • Start with the cars: asking an owner about their car is the easiest conversation starter.
  • Introduce yourself with your forum username, so members can connect online.
  • Be respectful: do not touch other people's cars, open doors or lean on them without permission.
  • Ask before taking close-up photos.

What usually happens

Most meets include time to look at cars and talk, sometimes a group photo, and in some cases a short scenic drive. Organisers may share news about future events or the community.

Leaving the meet

Leave quietly and calmly. Leaving a meet loudly or quickly is the most common reason venues stop allowing car events. Drive away as you would on any normal day.

After the meet

Share your photos in the event thread, with registration plates hidden. Thank the organisers and say hello to the people you met in the forum.

Your first meet story

Reply below if you are planning your first meet or have recently attended one. Tell us what you enjoyed and any tips for other newcomers.

If you feel unsure about going alone, reply to the event thread and ask whether another member would like to meet you on arrival. Many regulars are happy to welcome newcomers and introduce them to others.
