A group drive on beautiful roads is one of the best ways to enjoy a BMW with friends. Good planning makes the difference between a relaxed day and a stressful one. Here are practical tips for organising a group drive.

Choose the route carefully

  • Look for scenic, quiet roads with good visibility and a safe surface.
  • Avoid busy towns and peak traffic. They split the group and cause frustration.
  • Keep the distance realistic. Two to three hours of driving with breaks is plenty for most groups.
  • Drive the route in advance if possible, so you know the road conditions, roadworks and parking options.

Share the route with participants a few days before the drive, so everyone can load it into their navigation.

Plan the stops

Regular stops keep the group together and the mood good:

  • A meeting point with enough parking and facilities, such as a café or service area.
  • A photo stop at a viewpoint where all cars can park safely off the road.
  • A lunch stop at a place that has agreed to receive a group.
  • A final stop where people can say goodbye before going home.

Tell the venues in advance when you arrive with many cars.

Keep the group together safely

  • Limit the group size. Large groups are hard to manage. Split them into smaller groups of five to eight cars with a lead car each.
  • Brief everyone before departure: the route, the stops and the rules.
  • Do not try to stay together at any cost. Running red lights or overtaking dangerously to keep up is never acceptable. With the route in everyone's navigation, nobody gets lost.
  • Use a sweep car at the back, driven by someone who knows the route.
  • Keep to the speed limits. A group drive is about the roads and the company, not about speed.

Communication

A group chat or simple radios help coordinate stops and warn about problems. Drivers should never use a phone while driving; let a passenger handle communication.

Be considerate

Many people live along popular driving roads. Drive calmly through villages, avoid unnecessary revving and leave parking areas clean. Responsible behaviour keeps these roads open and welcoming for enthusiasts.

Share it

Create the drive in the Events section so members can reply and plan. After the drive, share photos and your route experience in this forum. Good routes are always appreciated by other members.
